Levi’s has launched an apparel sportswear line for Major League Baseball fans that includes styles for men and women.
The MLB line follows a previously launched National Football League collection with the San Francisco 49ers, which Levi’s said “is set to expand to include all 32 NFL teams at the start of the 2016-17 NFL season.”
The Levi’s MLB Collection features the company’s denim trucker jacket and a “classic” crewneck as well as a “vintage-inspired Club Coat,” the company noted, adding that the line is available online at levi.com and in “select stores.” It will also roll out this month to team retail stores Undefeated and Concepts.
The collection’s team brands include: the New York Yankees; Boston Red Sox; Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. Price points range from $78 to $108. From the company’s perspective, offering baseball-themed apparel is simply a way to give a nod to its past.
James Curleigh, president of Levi’s Brand and executive vice president of Levi Strauss & Co., said “from crafting uniforms to dressing fans for game day, Levi’s has been involved in the game of baseball for more than 100 years.”
Curleigh added that “there’s been a resurgence of baseball-influenced clothing in the past few years and Levi’s is in a unique position to create gear that can be worn to a game, but is stylish enough to wear in your everyday life.”
The company said the collection features “Levi’s silhouettes with pops of team branding and is anchored by the Trucker Jacket, featuring a baseball-inspired leather patch and the team embroidery done in a vintage chain-stitch technique; a classic crewneck with team appliqué; and our Club Coat, based on our heritage workwear but updated in nylon with team print.”
Opening day begins on Sunday with three games scheduled, which include the St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates, the Toronto Bluejays at Tampa Bay Rays, and the New York Mets at the Kansas City Royals. On Monday, 12 games are scheduled to include the San Francisco Giants at the Milwaukee Brewers, the Boston Red Sox at the Cleveland Indians and the Houston Astros at the New York Yankees.
