Designers are getting cozy with women this fall. Judging by the array of chunky knits, billowing capes and novelty fur on display last week at the Las Vegas trade shows — including WWDMAGIC, Project Womens, Stitch, AccessoriesTheShow, Agenda, Capsule, Liberty Fairs, Pool and CurveNV @ MAGIC — women have myriad ways to stay warm and stylish.
The biker jacket remains a popular silhouette, and suede is gaining momentum as a fabric of choice for clothing and accessories. On the palette, olive green complements the classic combo of black and white. Fur, both real and faux, is dipped in colorful dye as often as pop star Katy Perry’s tresses. Premium denim brands are also cropping jeans while elevating their sportswear.
One new trend percolating on the trade show floor is clothing designed for both men and women to wear. Whether described as unisex or genderless, these androgynous pieces follow a simple rule for fall: layer in comfort.
