Vera Wang has done an impressive job taking her Lavender Label from the cocktail dress collection it started as to a complete contemporary line. For spring, the mood is, as she put it, “military meets street urchin meets girly-girl.” Tailored trenches, grommet-trimmed sheer tops and stud details played tough, while Peter Pan collars, pleated skirts and eyelet made to look like grommets worked a softer side. It was a delightful mix with a million layering possibilities, that didn’t stop with the clothes. As at last week’s Vera Wang runway show, Wang put a big focus on accessories. Tangles of terrific silver chains took the form of bracelets, necklaces and belts, which, when tied off with a black grosgrain bow, further fueled the hard/soft counterpoint.
