There are very few Parisians left in town in August — and those who stay have their favorite haunts: the boat Les Jardins du Pont Neuf; the Perchoir bar on the BHV Marais rooftop; the Rosa Bonheur “guinguette” (or tavern); the Pavillon Puebla hideout in the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont; and Ground Control, an abandoned railway station that’s been morphed into a bar, restaurant and sandy péntanque area. (The game is the latest rage among Parisian hipsters.)
Most people opted for comfort — cropped denim shorts for women; jeans and loose Bermudas with airy shirts for men — sometimes topped by a jacket or even a coat as temperatures dipped. Of course, there are those who will never give up fashion for comfort, so here and there were a quirky jacket or sweater and even a layer or two. Other seasonal musts: sunglasses, hats and péntanque sets.
