For the ladies on hand in Louisville to watch Saturday’s 141st running of the Kentucky Derby, hats were a given — and the bigger the brim, the better. The frocks didn’t disappoint, either, as Churchill Downs’ tradition calls for formfitting sundresses in cheerful prints and hey-look-at-me colors. As for the Southern gents, they cheered on their favorite Thoroughbreds while nattily attired in lightweight suits fancied up with ascots, bow ties and straw fedoras. The favorite accessory of the day: the mint julep.
