Now in its 12th year of existence, Shanghai Fashion Week features a mix of runway shows from local Chinese designers and international brands. Most of the action is centered around the city’s Xintiandi retail and entertainment district. This season’s installment, which wraps Thursday, attracted some of the city’s best-dressed citizens. They favored black — often head to toe — and there was a trend toward light, loose-fitting trousers cut off above the ankle as well as skintight trousers and leggings. Standing out from simple black-and-white pairings and black-and-white geometric patterns were candy-striped jackets and coats and animal prints. As well as high heels and sneakers, many women combined short shorts with knee-high boots.
