What better spot to spy on summer accessories than an outdoor food festival where mid-July’s bright sun means hats and sunglasses will be plentiful? That was the scene in New York’s trendiest borough on Sunday as locals braved the Baked Apple’s 93-degree temperature to sample offerings from vendors at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Hats — from neat fedoras to floppier broad-brimmed styles — and an array of statement eyewear kept scalps and eyes protected. Not so feet and toes, which Smorgasburg fans exposed in skimpy sandals that included classic flip-flops, strappy flats and even clear-plastic jellies. The smartest accessory was also made of plastic: a small battery operated fan that allowed its owner to cool off and chow down at the same time.
