Downlite, a down and feather processor and supplier of responsibly sourced performance fills to the outdoor and home furnishings markets, has invested significant resources in its Responsible Down Standard supply chain in Europe and Asia.

RDS certification traces the down supply chain ensuring companies that the down used in their products comes from ethically treated geese and ducks.

Chad Altbaier, vice president and head of business development at Downlite, said the trend of supply chain custody, traceability and responsible sourcing does not appear to be slowing down. Consumers are demanding transparency from the brands with which they are aligned and need to trust that these brands are not only using environmentally friendly materials but also following sustainable practices, he noted.

“Significant demand for our RDS-certified down in both the outdoor and home furnishings market provoked us to expand our RDS certified supply chain in Europe and Asia,” Altbaier said. “This increased supply will assure our partners that they’ll will have the option of manufacturing products made with 100 percent RDS-certified down.”

Outdoor products company Nemo Equipment, headquartered in Nashua, N.H., recently joined outdoor clothing and U.K.-based equipment manufacturer Berghaus in Downlite’s growing list of RDS-certified down partners. Altbaier said a number of additional outdoor and home furnishings brands are coming on board with Downlite RDS-certified down programs for fall 2017.

Based in Mason, Ohio, Downlite is one of the top U.S. manufacturers of down and feather, and synthetic bedding products.
