For the first time, Tide is teaming up with The New School’s Parson School of Design to educate future designers on how to “Design for Care” through a 15-week fall 2015 course at the college, beginning Sept. 4.
The course will encompass garment care to sustainability. The class will explore how the care and use of fashion — laundering, storing, repairing, altering and wearing clothes — informs the creation of garments.
Burak Cakmak, dean of the School of Fashion at Parsons, said the tie-up between the school and Tide “brings an innovative approach to fashion design that transforms the way we use clothes.”
As part of the course, Tide and Downy representatives will give guest lectures on fiber science and the importance of understanding laundry practices in relation to design.
In 2013, Tide Pods and the Council of Fashion Designers partnered in the CFDA Washable Fashion Initiative, a response to increasing demand for washable garments.
