NEW DELHI, India — The Woolmark Co. has revealed the jury panel for the prize round for India, Pakistan and the Middle East, with the regional winner set to be revealed in Dubai on July 22.
Jury members include London-based designer Osman Yousefzada; Nez Gebreel, chief executive officer of the Dubai Design & Fashion Council; Louise Nichol, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia; Alison Tay, editor in chief of Grazia Middle East; Che Kurrien, editor of GQ India; Bridget Cosgrave, fashion and buying director of new retail partner Boutique 1, and Melissa Grace of The Woolmark Co.
The event will be held at the hotel Manzil Downtown Dubai.
The award, which is in its fourth year, has gained considerable attention in the region, especially after Indian designer Rahul Mishra won the International Woolmark Prize in Milan in 2014.
Eleven designers have been nominated for the event in July — eight in the women’s wear segment and three for men’s wear.
Nominees include Akaaro, and Nachiket Barve from India; Sania Maskatiya and Misha Lakhani from Pakistan; Taller Marmo and Bleach from the United Arab Emirates, and Bashar Assaf and Mira Hayek from Lebanon in the women’s segment. For men’s wear, the nominees are Suket Dhir from India, Republic from Pakistan and Thamanyah from UAE.
The winning collection will retail at Boutique 1, which has joined the network as the exclusive women’s wear retail partner for the UAE. The fashion retailer has stores in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Beirut and London, as well as an online presence.
Nominees will present sketches of six outfits highlighting the use of merino wool to a panel of industry experts at the regional awards event. One full outfit from the capsule collection is to be produced.
The winners will go on to the International Woolmark Prize finals to be held in Florence and New York in 2016.
