MILAN — Italy’s Accademia del Profumo announced the short list for its 27th annual awards at a press conference here on Thursday. The award ceremony is slated for April in Milan.
Accademia del Profumo’s president Luciano Bertelli was joined by award ambassador and TV presenter Filippa Lagerbäck for the reveal of the nominated fragrances in six categories, each divided into male and female.
A technical jury of 16 members of the academy’s steering committee and eight beauty editors and bloggers will pick winners in the categories, which include best olfactory creation, best perfume made in Italy, best packaging and best niche perfume.
Chanel Chance Eau Vive, Miss Dior Eau de Parfum and Miu Miu Eau de Parfum are nominated for the best communication award, which will be chosen by a jury composed of entertainment personalities, athletes and artists.
Among the 10 finalists for best female fragrance of the year, chosen by a consumer jury, are Alaia Paris, Gucci Bamboo and Bulgari Goldea, whereas in the male category Collistar’s Acquawood, Michael Kors Men and Dior Sauvage made the cut. Consumers will be able to vote for their favorite scent from Jan. 25 in 500 Italian perfumeries and through Facebook, the academy’s Web site and new mobile app.
Also introduced at the conference was the three-year project “Straordinario sentire” (“Extraordinary hearing”), which will take the Accademia del Profumo to various locations, where visitors can explore the world of fragrances. Divided into the three acts emotion, evolution and knowledge, the olfactory journey is making its first two stops at the botanical gardens of the Università degli Studi in Milan from Jun. 16 to 19 and in Florence from Sep. 9 to 11.
