Only in its second season, new Berlin label Achtland is already generating considerable buzz. For spring, creative director Oliver Lühr was inspired by the oceanographer Sylvia Earle and her Seventies “Aqua Babes.”
A standout was his coral reef dress — a simple short-sleeved shift made of multi-colored hand-dyed and appliquéd Guipure lace flowers, interspersed with strands of tiny red glass beads. The same flowers were worked on the sleeves of a black jersey top, this time resembling Victorian sea anemones. Key shapes included a cut-away cardigan — in vivid blue, lacquered black and white striped jersey; tailored tap pants in upholstery-like novelty fabrics from Mahlia Ken; and little side pleat skirts — one worked in peach nubuck.
