Alice + Olivia creative director Stacey Bendet recalled a recent meeting with executives on her team that sparked the idea for a philanthropic program. “We were discussing how so many women send us e-mails and write us messages about how they remember wearing their first Alice + Olivia dress,” she said. “We decided it would be a beautiful company initiative to donate dresses to young women for their first prom events.”
With that, Buy a Dress, Give a Dream! was born.
The initiative, which began on Tuesday, will last for two weeks, benefiting girls in need. For every dress purchased in a domestic Alice + Olivia freestanding store or at aliceandolivia.com, the company will donate a dress to an organization such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters in New York or Prep for Prep.
Bendet plans to host an event for dress recipients in New York, where they’ll be able to try on and take home a dress to wear to their prom.
