Anne Hathaway has approached the media’s consumption of her motherhood with an authority unusual for celebrities. After revealing her pregnancy back in January, she chose to share a bikini-clad photo on her Instagram account, posting an image from a beach vacation after she’d seen paparazzi snapping away and wanted to beat them to the punch. “So, posting a bikini pic is a little out of character for me, but just now while I was at the beach I noticed I was being photographed,” she wrote with the picture. “I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy (and be one that was taken with my consent. And with a filter :).”
She and husband Adam Schulman welcomed their son Jonathan on March 24. She’s now taken to Instagram once again to hit back on all the body-shaming celebrity mothers are faced with in the race to lose their baby weight.
“There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever),” she wrote, captioning a pair of jeans altered to accommodate a changing physique. “There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight (if you want to lose it at all). There is no shame in finally breaking down and making your own jean shorts because last summer’s are just too dang short for this summer’s thighs. Bodies change. Bodies grow. Bodies shrink. It’s all love. (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.) Peace xx #noshame #lovewhatyouhavebeengiven.”
