LOS ANGELES — APC opened its Los Angeles flagship Saturday at 8420 Melrose Place here, in a 2,500-square foot space purchased by founder Jean Touitou last year. The U-shaped building, centered, like others on the street, around a courtyard, has entrances on both Melrose Place and Melrose Avenue.
Architect Laurent Deroo designed the space around the courtyard, with an 18-meter-wide window supported by diagonal wood beams. The store is divided into three spaces; women’s accessories, men’s and women’s clothing, and men’s shoes and denim. In the central space that houses most of the clothing, there are 20-foot cathedral ceilings and three large porthole windows.
The walls and shelves, as well as the slats on the exterior, are light matte wood, and the floors feature grey ceramic tile from Spain as a nod to the Hispanic history of the city, like the native desert plants in the courtyard. The four dressing rooms sit beneath an all-glass peaked roof.
Accessories range from $45 to $720; ready-to-wear from $90 to $1,615; denim from $110 to $280 ; quilts and cushions from $105 to $1,105; and room fragrance and candles from $35 to $45.
Two more APC locations will open here later this year, at 123-125 W. 9th St. downtown and 3517 Sunset Blvd. in Silverlake.
