Arnold Brant Silverstone has joined Montreal-based clothing company Samuelsohn, where he will serve as president. He joins chief executive officer Stephen Granovsky, whose investment company purchased the 87-year-old firm in March.
Silverstone, who left Nordstrom two months ago after leading a revamp of the retailer’s tailored clothing private label, will be tasked with amping up the brand’s visibility, expanding distribution and reconfiguring its classic tailored offering for what he calls the “modern luxury consumer.”
“Samuelsohn is known as a manufacturer. We want this brand to have a face and to be more relevant than it has been,” he said.
Silverstone, who accepted the position late Friday, started at the company Monday. Among his immediate priorities are opening a showroom and office in New York and stepping up advertising and marketing. His first collection will be for fall 2011.
Samuelsohn, which retails suits for $1,200, is hoping to bring more competition to the opening luxury range. “I feel that zone is underserved. We want to be a leader there,” Silverstone said.
