NEW YORK — Nicholas Graham, the man who brought humor to the boudoir with Mr. Licky, the smiley-faced, big-tongued mascot for Joe Boxer underwear, is taking his irreverent humor a step further with “The Comedy Sleepstakes.”
The nationwide program slated for fall will run at department stores that sell underwear by Joe Boxer. Winners will be offered weekend accommodations for two with Joe Boxer’s comedic SWAT team [Super Wacky Action Team] that will “transform a sleepstake winner into a truly funny person overnight,” said Graham, chairman of Joe Boxer Corp.
“Several well-known female comedians will do stand-up comedy in in-store promotions this fall,” said Graham. He added that in the promotions, Mr. Licky would be joined by Miss Winky, a new mascot for the women’s line.
Graham added to his comedy routine last week at the Warner Bros. Studio store at 1 East 57th Street here with “Cartoon Couture,” a fashion show featuring Bugs Bunny dressed as Carmen Miranda and Pepe LePew as Holly Golightly. The show was emceed by Graham and Kathy Griffin, who plays Vicki on the NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan.”
After the show, Kathy Prost, senior vice president of product development and design for Warner Bros. Studio Stores, told WWD, “We sell a lot of underwear in our stores. In the fall, we’ll be moving into flannels and will be doing more items that feature Joe Boxer’s Mr. Licky.”
