FEDERATED TO SET 2ND VENDOR EVENT
Byline:
NEW YORK — Federated Merchandising said Friday it will hold a second vendor fair this year, due to the overwhelming response to its first open vendor call, set to run March 27-31.
Federated said it received 2,245 applications after its Feb. 21 announcement about the fair, but could make only 500 appointments, on a first-come, first-served basis. The vendors who were lucky enough to get appointments were notified, Federated said. A Federated spokeswoman acknowledged it took several days to notify vendors who didn’t receive appointments, but said those firms were included in a database for future fairs. The date of the next fair has not been decided yet, but it could be this fall or sooner, she added. Vendors with confirmed appointments will have an hour to audition for FM merchants in a private conference room at FM offices, 1440 Broadway.
In a separate announcement Friday, Federated said Stern’s will close its Lake Grove, N.Y., unit April 29 and, as reported, will open a new store the next day in nearby Smith Haven. The Smith Haven store is one of five Abraham & Straus stores being converted to Stern’s.
Stern’s plans to transfer the Brookhaven store’s 103 employees to its Smith Haven location. Approximately 240 employees of the A&S Smith Haven store will be considered for positions elsewhere in the Stern’s operation.
