FRENCH TOASTS

When Donatella Girombelli arrived in Paris last week to open her first Genny boutique, she had barely a moment to herself.
Eric and Beatrice de Rothschild gave her a dinner Wednesday night at their hotel particular, where the guests included David and Olimpia de Rothschild, Amyn Aga-Khan, Silvia de Waldner, Diane Von Furstenberg, Christian Louboutin, Carolyne Roehm and Ines de la Fressange.
“I’m exhausted,” said de la Fressange, who had shown her collection that afternoon. She must have slept in the next day, because she didn’t make it to Girombelli’s boutique opening on the Avenue Montaigne. Many of the other guests did.
“I flew in especially,” said Rebecca Moses, who designs the ready-to-wear collection for Girombelli and lives in Italy. Girombelli didn’t stick around for dancer Blanca Li’s party at the New Morning Jazz Club the next night. Guests like Azzedine Alaia, Lucy Ferry, Malcolm McLaren, Martin Margiela and Rossy de Palma sat, as Li, Pedro Almoduvar’s favorite Spanish dancer (whom he sees whenever he’s in Paris), performed flamenco.
The following night, Naomi Campbell was among those who joined Nadja Auermann’s birthday party at Les Bains Douches. Nadja’s invitation was designed by Karl Lagerfeld, but her suit was a John Galliano.
The high point of the evening was the presentation and distribution of the four-tiered chocolate cake, surrounded by flowers and fruit.
“It’s hard to blow all 24 candles out,” said the peroxide blonde.
