RETRO FITTING
The husband-and-wife design team of Olivier and Michele Chatenet, who are known as E2, continued with their alternative brand of couture for spring by showing pieces made of recut and reassembled vintage clothes. They scavenge thrift stores looking for their raw material, so what they whip up each season is something of a surprise. This time, they featured garments from the likes of Emanuel Ungaro and Sonia Rykiel that were customized with eyelet and fringes of shredded fabric on the sleeves. Antique kimono fabrics and scarves were rejiggered into wrap tops and skirts. The freshest items, however, were the vintage baseball and football T-shirts and tank tops that were transformed into dresses by adding taffeta for puffy skirts, sequins, embroidery and scarf collars.
