DEBUT DESIGNERS: Young designers Christine Ganeaux, Elisa Jimenez and Seth Shapiro have been selected for the fall 2001 Moet & Chandon Designer Debut.
In its fifth season, the debut showcases the talents of designers who have not previously held a major runway presentation. Designers are chosen by a committee of fashion industry executives including editors, retailers and writers.
Ganeaux cites her style as “classic, with an edge” and began designing after a fruitless search for well-fitting pants. Jimenez attended her grandmother’s sewing circles as a child and studied fine arts. She cuts and sews each piece herself and then “scents” it to initiate responses based upon the principles of aromatherapy.
An homage to the “action, dialog, life and beauty” of Native American culture, Shapiro’s line is called American Manufacturing. His fall collection will be titled “The Ceremony of Clothes.”
The show is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. in the Tent at Bryant Park.
COOL CLOTHES: The Montreal Fashions on Ice show hits the Rink at Rockefeller Plaza Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. and again Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.
In its fifth year, the event is an effort to promote Canada’s $3 billion apparel industry and showcases winterwear trends for women, men and children through ice dancing.
CYR TO AMEREX: Jim Cyr has joined Amerex Group as executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer service for all Gerry Group brands. Prior to Amerex, he was executive vice president of the CB Sports division of Snowmass Apparel and before that, he was vice president and founder of the Performance Outerwear division of Pacific Trail.
Cyr will be charged with helping to expand the Gerry Group’s men’s and women’s brands, which include Moonstone, Gerry, Roffe, Manbosok and Bombshell, according to George Santacroce, president of Amerex’s men’s apparel group. Cyr reports to Santacroce.
