J-LO, HILFIGER CLOSE IN ON JEANS DEAL
NEW YORK — Jennifer Lopez and Andy Hilfiger are getting closer to a deal, WWD has learned.
According to sources, an announcement could come as early as next week that Hilfiger and Lopez have teamed up to develop a jeanswear line called J-Lo, which is also the name of Lopez’s chart-topping album.
Tommy Hilfiger is expected to be an investor in his brother’s new music and fashion business called MEFI, which stands for Music Entertainment Fashion Inc., said sources. MEFI plans to manufacture apparel lines for celebrities.
News that Lopez and Hilfiger were in talks first surfaced in WWD on March 2.
Neither Andy Hilfiger nor Lopez officials would comment on the impending deal.
Andy Hilfiger, vice president of public relations for Tommy Jeans, laid the groundwork for Tommy Hilfiger’s connections to the hip-hop and rock ‘n’ roll worlds. He was the force behind many of the biggest rap and rock stars wearing Hilfiger’s clothing, such as Salt ‘N’ Pepa, Snoop Doggy Dog, Eve, Lil’ Kim and TLC. He also dressed The Rolling Stones when Tommy Hilfiger Corp. sponsored the Stones’ “No Security” tour.
