Asian shares gained Wednesday, indicating that investors are starting to recover from the shock of last week’s Brexit vote and are viewing the market more optimistically.
Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 advanced 1.6 percent to end at 15,567 while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 1.3 percent to finish at 20,436. Shanghai’s SSE saw more modest gains, rising 0.65 percent to close at 2,932.
Several retailers saw gains more or less in line with that of the rest of the market. Global Brands grew 1.5 percent to end at 0.680 Hong Kong dollars. Esprit advanced 1.6 percent to close at 5.74 Hong Kong dollars. Shiseido grew 1.4 percent to 2,594 yen.
Others registered smaller gains. Fast Retailing rose 0.5 percent to end at 27,595 yen while Prada increased 0.2 percent to finish at 23.65 yen.
