NEW YORK — Barbra Streisand shops are popping up inside department stores, tying in with the star’s concert tour.
The first Barbra Boutiques, as the shops are called, opened Friday at two Bloomingdale’s stores, in White Flint, Md., and Tysons Corner, Va., in advance of her concert scheduled for Tuesday in Washington.
Bloomingdale’s will roll out the concept in nine more of its department stores, including an 800-square-foot shop on the second floor of the 59th Street flagship. It’s slated to open May 23.
Thirty-five other Barbra Boutiques, generally 150 square feet to 200 square feet, are opening in various Macy’s, Bullock’s and Dayton’s, Hudson’s and Marshall Field’s stores, according to Stuart Spiegel, vice president of retail distribution for Sony Signatures, the merchandising division of Sony Corp. of America. Streisand is under contract with Columbia Music, a Sony division.
The Streisand line includes a baseball jacket, sweatshirts, T-shirts with photos of Barbra on the front, hats, men’s boxer shorts, jackets and ties. There are also compact discs, cassettes, movie videos and limited edition gold records, gifts and memorabilia.
Streisand’s tour — her first in years — began two weeks ago in London. It travels to Washington, D.C., this week, then goes to Detroit and Anaheim and San Jose, Calif., and concludes here at the end of June.
