Loews Regency New York Hotel has wrangled fashion illustrator Bil Donovan to teach a sketch class April 26. The artist vowed that participants will leave with their own drafts in hand after the hourlong class. The occasion will also celebrate his new collaboration for “A Collection: Scenes from Park Avenue” with the Midtown hotel popular with movers and shakers. Loews has also stamped one of his sketches on a tote bag, post card and eye mask.
The New Yorker still teaches at Fashion Institute of Technology and the School of Visual Arts, and is often airport-bound due to his plum assignments as artist-in-residence for Christian Dior Beauty.
From Donovan’s point of view, fashion illustration is “visual poetry that is something unique and undefinable.” However you define it, without question “social media has been the catalyst propelling it forward to a new audience,” he said. Given that, the job requests keep coming. Donovan is knee-deep using three of his images for chiffon georgette and silk scarves for Silk Pro’s Franco Bernasconi.
