MILAN — Milan Men’s Fashion Week may be slimming down, but Camera Nazionale della Moda‘s president Carlo Capasa on Monday emphasized the relevance of the Italian men’s wear industry.
Releasing the official schedule of the upcoming men’s shows, Capasa at a press conference invited the audience to consider Pitti Uomo and Milan Fashion Week as a single event that kicks off in Florence and closes in Milan. Capasa said the Italian men’s segment accounts for 39 percent of the country’s total exports. “If we consider the exports toward non-European countries, the percentage grows to 55 percent,” Capasa said.
The latest edition of the fashion chamber’s talent competition Milano Moda Graduate will kick off the week on June 14 with a show to present the winners of the contest. The jury will be headed by Diesel founder Renzo Rosso as president.

With 53 brands organizing shows, presentations and events in Milan in June, Giorgio Armani will close fashion week on June 17 with his namesake brand, as reported, to be paraded at his storied headquarters at 11 Via Borgonuovo.
“Giorgio Armani never misses the opportunity to affirm his leading role when it comes to support Milan and the local fashion weeks,” Capasa commented.
As reported, several brands will migrate from Milan in June, including Prada, which for the first time will show its men’s collection in Shanghai on June 6, and Salvatore Ferragamo and MSGM, both of which are bound for Florence.
At the same time, Stella McCartney will return to Milan for the second time to present the label’s men’s lineup and women’s pre-collection, and, as reported, Etro, Palm Angels and Philipp Plein will also be back in the city.
Fay will host its first presentation during Milan Men’s Fashion Week, along with emerging labels Rolf Ekroth & Terenit and Brett Johnson, while several new names will make their debuts on the catwalk. These include South Korean label Youser, Italian brand Edithmarcel and Portuguese designers David Catalan and Miguel Vieria.
Prada and Gucci will host music and cultural events during the week.
