DISPLAY CASE: The Council of Fashion Designers of America will hold a second iteration of its CFDA Jewelry Showcase at its New York City headquarters on Oct. 26. The showcase, comprised of 17 CFDA-member labels, will act as a group press day for participants. The CFDA held its first jewelry showcase in October 2013, and has revisited the idea after an outpouring of interest from jewelry design members.
“It helped each of the participants be in front of editors that they might not have been otherwise be in front of. The power of a group is stronger than the power of one — it’s about creating a collective force,” CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb said of the outcome of the 2013 showcase.
Of the CFDA’s approximately 500 member labels, some 79 are jewelry designers.
Kolb said of the organization’s showcase concept: “It’s to really put a spotlight on jewelry designers; women’s fashion week is always a big deal and gives lot of attention to women’s designers. We launched men’s fashion week this past summer and that put a significant spotlight on men’s, so it seemed natural…to categorize other segments of membership.”

This same idea will soon extend to realms outside jewelry as well. Said Kolb: “We have another group, ECFDA — Eyewear Designers of the CFDA — that are going to do something similar in about a month.”
