CRUZ CONTROL: Still hoarse from screaming and yelling at the New York Giants’ victory parade, Victor Cruz apologized for his raspy voice before cutting the ribbon to kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Afterward, the 25-year-old wide receiver said of the team’s Super Bowl win, “It still hasn’t even sunk in. I’ve been going to everything, doing the parade and all, but it still hasn’t really sunk in. We’ve just been taking every day as it comes.”
Once that reality is in place, Cruz plans to round up his family, board a plane and treat them to a vacation. Aside from endorsing such brands as Nike, the IMGer started the men’s clothing label Young Whales with his former teammate Nate Collins in 2010. Given his skyrocketing popularity — the Silk Road Salsa dancing surely helped that cause — it is no surprise that “a lot of women” have approached him about doing a women’s collection. That is in the works, but he is not certain when it will be good to go.
As for whether another fashion-minded woman, Gisele Bündchen, was right to speak her mind (or rather shout about it) in defense of her quarterback husband Tom Brady, Cruz said, “I guess so. Obviously she was still a little emotional. That’s what you do for your partner. It would be wrong if she didn’t. But it’s not right to talk about the team.”
Look for Cruz at Tommy Hilfiger’s and Naeem Khan’s runway shows.
