BERLIN — Damir Doma has been chosen to launch a new initiative, Fashion HAB, during Berlin Fashion Week in January.
In co-operation with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), the Milan-based designer will present his men’s and women’s fall 2018 collections exclusively in Berlin this season.
Hosted by The Fashion Council Germany (FCG) in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, Fashion HAB will be the closing event on Jan. 17. The event takes its name from its venue, Halle am Berghain, Berlin’s most famous techno club.
It is a Berlin catwalk debut for Doma, though in 2010, the designer staged a Fashion Week happening at another of the capital’s techno clubs, E-Werk. In an interesting twist, E-Werk is this season’s new venue for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runway shows.
“I grew up in Germany and lived in Germany most of my life, so I still consider it as one of my home markets,” Doma told WWD. “I believe the situation is actually quite interesting as there is a new generation of followers and clients coming up. (It’s) a new generation that is much more sensitive to fashion and to global trends, and therefore I think that Germany will become one of the most important markets for us within Europe.”

He added he sees the Berlin show “as a unique opportunity to showcase my work in one of the most authentic and exclusive locations in the world. I believe that my aesthetic goes so well with Halle am Berghain. My work was always a duality of something sensitive, poetic and something very raw and unfinished. I can’t wait to see my creations within this special architecture and with a really special sound by Barker & Baumecker.”
Fashion HAB will additionally showcase two designers chosen by CMNI, Bav Tailor and Davide Grillo, together with two German designers selected by the FCG, Benu Berlin and Last Heirs. The FCG will cooperate with international fashion institutions to present not only German talents but also designers from abroad each year.
