CHEROKEE’S NEW FACE: Kathy Ferguson has been appointed vice president of product development and administration at Cherokee Apparel, headquartered in Sunland, Calif. It is a new post.
Ferguson, who will report to Cherokee Apparel president Joseph M. Elles, will be responsible for the development, execution and forecasting of all Cherokee Apparel products. She will be based in the Sunland corporate headquarters.
Ferguson had been vice president of merchandising and marketing at Gloria Vanderbilt. Previously, she was vice president of women’s wear merchandising at Levi Strauss & Co., and before that, held the same post at Lee Apparel. She has also worked as a consultant in the jeanswear industry.
PEPE POST: Carol Jansing has become director of advertising and public relations for Pepe Jeans, a new post. Jansing joined Pepe last July as advertising planner, and before that was the media planner for Calvin Klein.
She takes over Pat Durkin’s duties at the company’s New York headquarters, and will report to LeAnn Nealz, senior vice president of design and merchandising.
Durkin has become advertising director at Tommy Hilfiger, the men’s sportswear company that plans to launch a women’s apparel line in 1993.
INTERNATIONAL DATE CHANGE: The dates for the next International Jeanswear show have been pushed back a month, to Oct. 22-24 from Sept. 22-24. The location — the Miami Beach Convention Center — stays the same.
Marshall Lester, director of Blenheim U.S. Apparel Shows, which produces the twice-annual trade show, said the move was a response to requests from vendors and retailers, and reflects the trend toward buying closer to need.
