SERIOUS MATTERS: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are engaging in a series of initiatives that relate to suicide prevention. The young royals will take part in a round of public and private functions in aid of those who have been affected by suicide.
On Thursday they visited St. Thomas’ Hospital in London and met with Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn. Benjamin, who attempted suicide in 2008, was saved by a stranger. After recovering, he launched the #FindMike social media campaign with the Rethink Mental Illness charity. The campaign was successful, and Benjamin met with his good samaritan, who turned out to be called Neil — not Mike.
After the visit, the royals held a screening at Kensington Palace of “The Stranger on the Bridge,” a documentary based on Benjamin’s experience and his journey with the #FindMike campaign. The duchess wore a bright green coat from Erdem’s pre-fall 2013 collection. She’s worn the coat before, during her royal tour in New Zealand in 2014 and at the launch of the Tour de France.
The duke and duchess recently traveled to the French Alps for a short family ski holiday.
