LONDON — Europe’s major stock markets were on the upswing in midmorning trading on Tuesday, with Milan’s FTSE MIB leading the way.
The Italian market was up 1.5 percent to 18,686.03; followed by the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.6 percent to 10,354.52, and the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.5 percent to 4,569.55. The FTSE 100 in London also rose 0.5 percent, to 6289.98.
The euro traded at $1.12, while the pound fetched $1.45 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.02 at 10:35 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were also on the rise, with the morning’s biggest gainers including online flash-sales site MySale Group, 2.6 percent to 0.54 pounds; Carrefour, 1.1 percent to 26.19 euros; Salvatore Ferragamo, 1.8 percent to 20.51 euros, and Safilo Group, 1.5 percent to 8.12 euros.
Among the few stocks that fell were Boohoo.com, 3.5 percent to 0.48 pounds; Italia Independent Group, 1.6 percent to 18.69 euros, and Britain’s Bonmarche Holdings, 3.8 percent to 1.54 pounds.
