LONDON — The European indices that were open Wednesday morning started the day in a varied pattern.
The FTSE 100 in London gained 0.2 percent to 6,611.64, while the CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.3 percent to 4,303.13.
The FTSE MIB in Milan and the DAX in Frankfurt were both closed ahead of Christmas on Thursday.
Among the fashion, luxury and retail stocks that rose were Kering, up 0.7 percent to 159.65 euros; French Connection, 3.9 percent to 0.62 pounds, and Tesco, 0.9 percent to 1.86 pounds.
Those that lost ground included Jimmy Choo, down 2.2 percent to 1.71 pounds; Asos, 1 percent to 25.90 pounds, and Marks & Spencer, 0.2 percent to 4.83 pounds.
At 10:50 a.m. CET, the pound traded for $1.56, while the euro went for $1.22.
