Other Globe spandex operations are at Fall River and Gastonia, N.C.
Although it wouldn’t divulge spandex capacity, Globe did say that the new, $40 million plant will double the company’s current output.
The Tuscaloosa facility will produce clear and dull spandex fibers of up to 280 deniers.
“The plant provides the technology and capacity for Globe to service the warp knit market as a significant supplier,” said Thomas A. Rodgers 3rd, Globe’s president. Globe has traditionally targeted its products at the hosiery and circular knit markets.
GALEY & LORD TAPS McCORMACK: Robert McCormack has been named president, apparel fabrics, at Galey & Lord. It is a new post.

For the past five years, McCormack was executive vice president, apparel marketing, in Galey & Lord’s woven division. He will continue to have those responsibilities.
Frank Kule, executive vice president, uniform fabrics, will report to McCormack. Kule will also assume responsibility for the merchandising and sales of the company’s home sewing fabrics and supervision of Galey & Lord export sales.
BAGGING ART: Some New York art studios for textile prints put their talents to work for God’s Love We Deliver, the organization that prepares and delivers food to homebound people with AIDS. A total of 750 shopping bags, all hand-painted by the studios with lively florals, abstracts and geometrics, were used Monday for food deliveries. The participating studios were Design Works International, The Style Council, Splash, Tom Cody Design, Southpaw, New York Textile Design Center, Print-A-Pattern, Shelly Meridith Design and Jenny Faw Design. They’ll do it again on July 4. Those designers or studios wishing to contribute designs should contact Design Works International.
