KATE THE GREAT: At the premiere of “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” in Los Angeles on Monday night, Kate Hudson, in drop-dead Jean Paul Gaultier couture, looked like a head-to-toe heartbreaker. “I have a crush on Kate Hudson,” costar Matthew McConaughey admitted. “She’s fun, adorable, a little bit hippie…and she gets it.”
But Hudson proved she wasn’t without flaws. She’s made her share of relationship faux pas, according to her husband, Chris Robinson, who jumped in before Hudson could speak. “She moved in with me! She showed up at my doorstep with the dog and the bags,” he said. “I couldn’t argue with her…and here we are.”
“I won,”Hudson added, grinning from ear-to-ear.
ON WITH THE SHOW: Bedraggled fashion editors won’t have to trudge too far for a post-show libation, with next week’s opening of Show. Inspired by American vaudeville and German cabarets, the nightclub is souped up with a booming sound system, lighting and stage where musicians, DJs and even trapeze artists will perform under the spotlights. Patricia Fields, IMG Models, Stuff Magazine and Gen Art have already booked the 6,000-square-foot space at 135 West 41st Street, which just received a $1 million facelift under the gilded eye of Norman Gosney.
MY LUNCH WITH RUDY: Cynthia O’Connor, who reps several top accessories lines at her showroom, Cynthia O’Connor + Co. in New York, is a big fan of Rudolph Giuliani. So much so, that she bid $13,000 recently at her daughter’s school, Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan, to have lunch with the ex-mayor. The luncheon takes place today at Giuliani’s offices, and O’Connor said she’ll bring several colleagues along: Kim Isaacson of Clever Carriage, Jane Fox of Buzz by Jane Fox, Lynn Pincus and Abby Held of Kooba, Joanne Teishman, who runs Ylang Ylang in Dallas, and Sarah Lynch, vice president of Cynthia O’Connor.
“When the Giuliani thing came up, I hadn’t planned on spending more than $1,000, but he’s my hero,” said O’Connor. She recalled it was a heated bidding war, but she was determined. “I didn’t regret it the next day, either.”
SAKS TO THE RESCUE: Susannah Constantine and Trinny Woodall, co-hosts of the British TV makeover show “What Not to Wear,” were spotted Friday at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, taping a segment for “Inside Edition.” IE reporters followed them around the fifth floor for an hour as they shopped and gave commentary about clothes for each other’s body types, which are “too tall and flat-chested” (Trinny) and “big-breasted and womanly” (Susannah). In fact, Trinny lifted up her skirt to show an observer what it’s like to be so long-legged.
Earlier in the week, the hosts and stylists of the new U.S. edition of “What Not to Wear” also taped a segment at Saks. The show was tested earlier this month on The Learning Channel, and is expected to bow March 8. Host Jillian Hamilton, as well as stylists Wayne Scott Lukas and Stacy London, shopped with a makeover candidate, who received $5,000 to buy a new wardrobe, of which about $2,000 was spent in the store, said a Saks spokesman.
