FASHION POLITICO: Aurélie Filippetti, the French minister of culture, is no stranger to fashion. Wearing an Azzedine Alaïa dress while visiting the Designers Apartment during Paris Fashion Week, a space designed to showcase the collections of young designers, she insisted on the importance of fashion in the new Socialist government. “Fashion is an important sector of creation,” she told WWD. “It is also an important sector in terms of employment in a challenging economy. Fashion includes many art crafts, which depend on my ministry. We must continue to invest in these crafts, which are vehicles of excellence.”
Filippetti said she could not attend the shows this season. But she took the opportunity of the fashion week to meet with young designers and map out their needs.
The Designers Apartment was an initiative of the French fashion’s top governing body, the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode. “Lots of the clothing I saw today is made in France. It is a window of hope,” Filippetti said. She wore Repetto shoes. “They are made in France,” she noted.
