Mark Frost, a member of Gieves & Hawkes’ design team, is taking over as design director for the men’s brand to replace an outgoing Simon Spurr.
Trinity Ltd., which owns the brand, said it has tapped Frost, an alum of Tom Ford and Hackett to take the reins of the British tailor founded in 1771. The company said Frost took over April 1.
As reported, Spurr’s tenure at Gieves & Hawkes was extremely short. He left the brand before he even presented his first runway collection for the label. In October, the brand named him creative director, moving him from the same position at Trinity’s other English men’s brand, Kent & Curwen.
Trinity announced in February that Daniel Kearns was taking over from Spurr as creative director of Kent & Curwen, a brand that is teaming up with David Beckham to revamp its image. At that time, Trinity did not say anything about Spurr exiting his position at Gieves & Hawkes and leaving Trinity altogether. However, Spurr later told WWD he left Trinity that same month. A Trinity spokeswoman said Spurr’s last day at the company was March 31.
“After [three] years within the Trinity group, I have decided to explore other opportunities in the men’s wear market,” Spurr said in the Trinity statement announcing Frost’s appointment.
A Trinity spokewoman said: “Whilst Simon was only at the G&H brand for a short time, he had been with the Trinity Group for more than three years and decided it was time to move on to new opportunities. Mark was the obvious successor having been a key member of the G&H creative team for [four] years.”
Trinity is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. It is part of Fung Holdings, which also controls Li & Fung Ltd. and Global Brands.
