MILAN — Giorgio Armani has teamed up with La Cinémathèque Française in Paris to support an exhibition dedicated to Martin Scorsese.
Titled “Scorsese,” the retrospective celebrating the American film director’s career is scheduled to open Oct. 14 and will run until Feb. 14. On display will be archival material collected over the years, also by Scorsese himself.
“I’ve been a fan of the cinema throughout my entire life, and the influence of cinema on my work and design has been deep and lasting,” Armani said. “My support of this tribute by La Cinémathèque Française, one of the true temples of the art form in France, provides me with another way of showing my appreciation for Martin Scorsese’s great artistry. He is a true master, and I am honored to call him my friend.”
The collaboration between Armani and Scorsese started in the early Nineties, when the film director realized the “Made in Milan” documentary on the fashion designer. Armani also supported various initiatives developed by Scorsese, including his World Cinema Project focused on preserving and restoring neglected gems of the movie industry, along with creating the costumes for many of his movies, such as “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013.
“How can I even begin to express my admiration for Giorgio Armani — as a master who revolutionized fashion…as a valued collaborator…as an old and dear friend? And how can I express my gratitude for the support he’s given me over the years, and for his continued generosity on this occasion?” said Scorsese. “I’m humbled and honored by Giorgio’s sponsorship of the tribute to my work at La Cinémathèque Française. He has honored me with this important collaboration. It’s yet another brotherly gesture, and I’m very moved.”
