It was still dark in Los Angeles when Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid announced the nominees for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards at Pacific Design Center early Thursday.
To be sure, most of Hollywood was wide awake, and many were rewarded for it, including several A-List actors who were snubbed by the Screen Actors Guild yesterday. Among them, Matt Damon for “The Martian,” Will Smith for “Concussion,” Jennifer Lawrence for “Joy,” and Melissa McCarthy for “Spy.” Also not to be overlooked, Lady Gaga for her role in “American Horror Story: Hotel.”
Newcomers Alicia Vikander (a double nominee for lead in “The Danish Girl” and supporting in “Ex Machina”), Brie Larson, Soarise Ronan again dominated in major categories, and veterans Jane Fonda and Sylvester Stallone also got nods.
The Jan. 10 show, hosted by Ricky Gervais at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, will air live at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on NBC.
