GQ has tapped Christopher Cox as executive editor. Cox will be responsible for editing long-form stories, investigative pieces, profiles and essays.
“Chris is that rare magazine talent: a deeply experienced editor who knows how to marry big ideas and high ambitions with the best and freshest writers in journalism,” said GQ’s editor in chief Jim Nelson. “I was always a little jealous when I read his award-winning work in Harper’s Magazine, and now I’m just glad I don’t have to be jealous anymore.”
Cox most recently worked freelance for Esquire. Prior to that he was the editor in chief of Harper’s Magazine, where he edited pieces that won the National Magazine Award, an Overseas Press Club Award and the PEN Award for Literary Journalism. Before that he was the senior editor at The Paris Review.
In June the magazine hired Ross McCammon as senior editor, John Ortved as senior associate editor and Paul Robertson as associate publisher of marketing. Cox’s position is effective Aug. 15.
