Guerlain Celebrates Orchidée Impériale’s 10th Birthday

The antiaging skin care is the brand’s bestselling line overall.

PARIS — Guerlain this week celebrated the 10th nniversary of its successful Orchidée Impériale antiaging skin care, whose formula includes four different species of orchid chosen from 30,000 varieties.

“It’s the first line in the company,” said Laurent Boillot, chief executive officer of Guerlain, addressing journalists at the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned brand’s Paris flagship on the Champs-Élysées.

After Orchidée Impériale’s introduction in 2006, the product went through some formula updates, most recently with the addition of Gold Orchid technology. That’s billed to boost and reinforce the bioenergetics network, the key to skin regeneration.

The line was expanded with numerous other offerings, as well, including a mask, an eye and lip cream, and a mousse cleanser.

Guerlain’s orchidarium research platform today has three research divisions: In TianZi, China, where the flowers are cultivated in their original environment in a natural reserve; in Geneva, where there is a collection of 3,000 orchids, and in Strasbourg, France, where biological research is done in a basic research laboratory.

During the gathering in here, Margerie Barbès Petit, international marketing and communications director at the brand, unveiled the creation of Guerlain’s Imperial Woman Reward recognizing remarkable women — such as scientists, artists and philanthropists — who put flowers in the heart of their life and actions. The prize will be celebrated in the next few months in all of the countries where Orchidée Impériale has been successful. Heading up the award is Minguo Li-Margraf, director of the TianZi reserve.

She was present at the event, as were other members of Guerlain’s orchidarium, including François Gérard, an ethnobotanist, and Annelise Lobstein, a professor of pharmacognosy.
