HOLMES’ SOHO SPREE: Katie Holmes caused a commotion at Dean & DeLuca in SoHo on Thursday when she cruised into the gourmet store carrying two-year-old daughter Suri, who was wearing a tartan dress and silver ballet slippers. Unfazed by the paparazzi swarming outside, Holmes, who was dressed in a long white sweater and tight black pants, waited on a long line to pay for a cookie for Suri. From there, Holmes and Co. walked south on Broadway to Uniqlo, where the actress checked out a quilted jacket. Later, Holmes took several items to the cash wrap with Suri — who was still eating her cookie — in tow and bought “a bunch of cardigans for herself,” according to a sales associate.
TINSLEY WITHOUT TOPPER?: Is it finally over between New York’s most well-publicized socialite Tinsley Mortimer and her husband Topper? In October 2007, The New York Times ran an interview with the couple, in which Topper showed a fair amount of disdain for the social circuit his wife was on. “I want to see some results from all these benefits,” he said. “Do you think any of these people would be involved if they didn’t get credit for it?” To which Tinsley interjected, “Sometimes he forgets, when he’s on this subject, like: ‘I know one of them. That’s my wife.’”
Then, last September, Radar online reported the couple might be headed for splitsville.
Sadly, it’s looking more and more like that’s the truth. In November, tongues started wagging when Topper headed down to Colombia for Thanksgiving with friends of his while Tinsley went to Palm Beach with her mother. In December, sources said, the couple began telling friends they’d split, though one society pal said there still was no mention of the word divorce and wasn’t entirely convinced they’d completely thrown in the towel. “They are separated, but they haven’t filed for divorce as far as I know,” the person said. “They started dating in high school, and so in many ways, it’s as if they’re both still teenagers. They fight constantly and then they make up and it’s driven by passion and lust.”
Tinsley did not respond to numerous requests for comment Thursday.
FERGIE’S DIAMOND I DO’S: When Fergie ties the knot with actor Josh Duhamel on Saturday in the Los Angeles environs, it will, not surprisingly, be a blinged-out affair. The pop star has been working with H.Stern to design the couple’s rings, as well as the jewelry for the wedding party. With that sort of VIP attention, there’s most likely a public relations bonanza in the works, so expect to see pictures of the nuptials in the media next week.
CROWNING GLORY: The likes of Lauren Conrad, Julie Andrews and Dylan Lauren tapped their inner royal inclinations in designing tiaras in celebration of “Forever Princess,” the 10th book in the “Princess Diaries” series by Meg Cabot. The tiaras are being auctioned at Tiaras.cmarket.com until Jan. 31 to benefit teen programs at The New York Public Library’s 87 branches. Notable designs include Vera Wang’s crystal encrusted style and Bobbi Brown’s design, which is covered in the makeup artist’s namesake blushes, lip glosses and makeup brushes.
KISS AND TELL: Virginie Mouzat, Le Figaro’s glamorous fashion director, has published her first novel titled “Une Femme Sans Qualités,” or “A Woman Without Qualities.” The book recounts the turbulent love life of a forty-something fashion journalist who works for Le Figaro, whose character is said to be loosely based on Mouzat. The 168-page French language work, published by Albin Michel, will be released in French bookstores Thursday.
