The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers & Distributors, or ICMAD, held its Young Designers Competition at Twenty Four Fifth in New York City on Oct. 10 to honor three forward-thinking packaging design students.
Winners were chosen after receiving empty bottles (donated by Dallas-based East Hill Industries), and charged with imagining and implementing a product concept for both inner and outer packaging.
Judges — made up of cosmetic and personal care packaging experts — made their selections based on concept, design and launch potential. Winners were flown to New York for the award dinner, given cash prizes and the opportunity to tour three packaging design companies.
“Congratulations to the winners — we are honored to offer such a valuable opportunity to future budding designers,” said Pam Busiek, president and chief executive officer for ICMAD. “We look forward to the Young Designers program continuing to evolve and becoming the catalyst to many others’ success.”
This year’s first, second and third place winners were, respectively, Tara Meyer and Samantha Galvez, both design students from Miami International University of Art and Design and Matt Zonona, a design student from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising of Los Angeles.
The awards were presented by Busiek; Ian Ginsberg, president of C.O. Bigelow and chairman of ICMAD, and Ben Bennett, founder and creative director for Hatchbeauty, who also served as the program’s keynote speaker.
