MILAN — The Camera Nazionale Della Moda has released guidelines that fashion companies can observe to progressively reduce the use of specific groups of chemicals in their manufacturing processes.
The guidelines are the first fruits of the working group on sustainability, with the Chamber of Fashion’s Carlo Capasa as its president, and the involvement of several fashion companies, including Ermenegildo Zegna, Gianni Versace, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Loro Piana, OTB, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo and Valentino.
The fashion body — along with the most important associations operating in the industry, including Sistema Moda Italia, Altagamma, Federchimica, Associazione Tessile Salute and Unic — has commissioned studies on more than 350 chemical substances to define the parameters of acceptability in their use. In addition, the document set targets to achieve in the next few years.
Camera Nazionale della Moda and its members in 2012 released the “Manifesto for Sustainability,” which includes ten focal points for more responsible practices in the industry. The group is already working on the creation of additional guidelines to stimulate a sustainable approach in several business areas, including production, sourcing of raw materials, social responsibility, retail and sales.
