Ivanman designer Ivan Mandzukic tends to avoid questions about what inspires his men’s wear, but this season the sports influence was pretty undeniable. Black mesh made it off the basketball court and onto the runway; while it remained gym-appropriate in a black T-shirt with a raw cut neck, it dressed up quite nicely in a tailored black coat with oversize sculpted sleeves. Varsity met “Miami Vice” in a white bomber in a waffle cotton mix with huge lapels. Body-hugging, hand knitted sweaters and standout tank tops with a textured bubblelike effect came in a range of hues from white to bright jade and faded rose; while on the sleek side, high-sheen cool wool got tailored into elongated jackets and shirt-weight coats.
Mandzukic’s love affair with colors (especially pink) certainly shows no sign of fading. And while he’s serious about tailoring, his playful approach to combinations and details shows he doesn’t always take himself too seriously.
