Makeup Artist Jake Bailey Found Dead in Los Angeles Home

The presumed cause of death is suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning.

Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey was found dead in his Los Angeles home Friday morning, according to sources. The presumed cause of death is suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning.

Bailey, 37, was represented by Starworks Artists, which issued the following statement Friday afternoon: “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Jake Bailey’s passing. He was an undeniable talent, a great friend, a loving son and brother, and our grief is shared with all those whose lives he’s touched. As one of the industry’s most sought after makeup artists, Jake worked with an incredible client roster and his work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair, and Allure. He collaborated with some of the top photographers in the fashion and entertainment industries and was also a passionate photographer himself. Jake was a mentor to many, and his work will continue to inspire. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.”

Bailey had worked with a number of stars, including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Gwen Stefani and Jessica Chastain. His September 2014 Cosmopolitan magazine cover featuring Perry was one of his best-known works.

Bailey was a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, moved to New York at age 18 and apprenticed with a number of makeup artists, including Kevyn Aucoin, Pat McGrath, Tom Pecheux and Diane Kendal.

At the time of his death he was dividing his time between Los Angeles and New York City.
