The fun, laid-back environment of Joli Beauty Bar is evident in every aspect of the salon, especially in its French-inspired, periwinkle blue décor.
“We want this to be a place where women can feel safe and comfortable,” said Zsuzsi Evans, founder and chief executive officer of Joli Beauty Bar. “We’re really just here to help you and we hope you leave feeling fabulous and confident.”
The East Village salon, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary on Sept. 8, has cemented its place in the neighborhood as a one-stop-shop for beauty services with offerings ranging from skin treatments and lash extensions to keratin and makeup lessons. Joli sets itself apart from other salons by offering customizable services for each client, simplifying the process for women who want their beauty fix without the added stress of choosing from a small range of looks.
“The whole concept at Joli is just to come have fun,” said Charde Smith, creative director and lead stylist at the salon. “We just want this place to be really down to earth.”
Along with its beauty services, Joli hosts mixers and parties for its clients to enjoy the Joli experience with a group of their friends. Joli also sells some of the beauty products they use in its services, from brands like Living Proof and Shien Cosmetics, as well as jewelry from local entrepreneurs.
The next step for the salon is Joli-to-Go, an at-home experience that connects Joli stylists with clients to bring them the same beauty products and services they would receive in the salon. Evans also has plans to open up more locations in New York and other major cities around the world.
“The most important thing is to maintain the core values,” Evans said on growing the business. “We do that by continuing to give great service, having friendly and fun environments, and making sure that everybody who works for Joli understands what we’re all about.”
Joli Beauty Bar is located at 44 East 1st Street. Services range in price from $15 to $275.
