BOTH SIDES NOW: To mark the opening of flagships in London and Manhattan this spring and summer, the British women’s wear and accessories brand Karen Millen has tapped Mary Nighy, daughter of Bill Nighy and Diana Quick, to direct a short film. “No More Tiaras” features four young, creative women from both sides of the Atlantic — Dylan Penn, Langley Fox Hemingway, Stephanie LaCava and Adwoa Aboah. Styled by Valentine Fillol Cordier, the two-and-a-half minute narrative tells the story of Karen Millen’s evolution into a more fashion-led brand, with a strong focus on tailoring. As reported, the brand began working with David Bailey last fall on its ad campaigns, with Katy England as the stylist.
Karen Millen plans to hold a launch event for the film in New York today, in anticipation of the flagship’s opening at 587 Fifth Avenue, at the corner of 48th Street, in June. The new unit will span more than 5,000 square feet. In the U.S., Karen Millen currently has 13 stores, and 15 shops-in-shop at Bloomingdale’s, with a further five slated to open at Bloomingdale’s in 2014-15.
