The threat of an impending storm didn’t stop guests from gathering on the patio of the Kronprinzenpalais for Lala Berlin’s alfresco “Garden Party” show. Fans of the brand should start doing their sit-ups now: Crop tops were out in force on the runway — from bandeaux in a pale cream circular print paired with matching wide-leg pants to a bralette peeking out from underneath a mannish azure-blue blazer with matching shorts.
Designer Leyla Piedayesh also used graphic prints — in a mix of blue, canary yellow, black and white — throughout the collection, on a fitted pantsuit, floor-length evening gowns, silk shorts and sequined palazzo pants. Long, loose cotton broderie-anglaise dresses with thin straps were shown in black or white and dipped sweetly at the back, but were a little too transparent to be properly demure. Lala also gave a new edge to her signature knitwear this season. The hems of a black-and-white knitted tunic were left frayed and worn over a matching skirt with tiered woolen tassles for extra dimension.
