Marc Jacobs has dipped his toes into swimwear in the past, offering a few suits here and there, but he’s fully taking the plunge for spring 2009. Earlier this week, Jacobs announced a licensing agreement with Swimwear Anywhere Inc., which will design and manufacture swim separates and beachwear for the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. Based in Farmingdale, N.Y., Swimwear Anywhere is owned by Joseph and Rosemarie DiLorenzo and designs and markets 14 brands of swimwear, including Carmen Marc Valvo Swim, DKNY Swim, Michael Kors Swim, Juicy Couture Beach, Juicy Couture Beach Baby and Liz Claiborne. The DiLorenzos also own the performance swimwear firm Tyr Sport Inc. Among the posh poolside Marc by Marc Jacobs styles are tanks and bikinis sold as separates, all of which will be available at speciality shops, department stores and, of course, Marc by Marc Jacobs stores worldwide.
